Welcome to Cognitive Works
My name is Dawn Nicol and I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural therapist.
I use Microsoft Teams as my online platform. This means I can see you wherever you live in the United Kingdom.
I am able to work with children, adolescent and adults using evidence based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I am registered with most major health insurance providers, or I can accept those wishing to self fund.
(Please note this is not a NHS service)
My accreditation status can be confirmed with the BABCP.
All professional referrals should be emailed directly to me in a password protected document.
Please do not send to Worting House, which was my previous office address.
About Me
Cognitive Works Services
CBT for children
I work with children from the age of around 7 years onwards. There is a good evidence base for CBT with this age group and if they are younger than 7, I usually work with the parent/carer and the child, using a behavioural and/or familial intervention.
I have completed a child and adolescent post graduate diploma at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, which taught evidence based, developmentally appropriate, cognitive behaviour therapy programmes for children and adolescents. I work within the NHS as a cognitive behaviour therapist, across the 5-18 years age range.
CBT for young people
I work with adolescents and offer evidence-based CBT to this age group. I normally work with the young person in the session and link up with the accompanying parent/carer at the end to summarise work in our session – however it’s down to personal choice, and I welcome parents/carers in the session too.
I have completed a child and adolescent post graduate diploma at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, which taught evidence based, developmentally appropriate, cognitive behaviour therapy programmes for children and adolescents.
While working under the NHS as a cognitive behaviour therapist, across the 5-18 years age range, I have worked on schools projects in Surrey that provided CBT interventions within primary and secondary schools.
CBT for adults
I offer evidence-based CBT to the over 18’s and have worked in adult mental health services in the NHS for 16 years. I completed a CBT course as part of my first degree and have practiced as a CBT therapist since then.
I have also trained as a schema therapist, which focuses on recognising and addressing maladaptive core beliefs and patterns of behaviour and uses CBT within its model.
Clinical Supervision
I am able to offers clinical supervision for CBT professionals.
I have extensive experience of facilitating and running CBT supervision groups within the NHS. I also supervise psychologists in the independent sector and in the NHS and CBT therapists within the independent sector.
